Pedestrian and Commerce Bridge Design

— Crossings Rooted in the Traditions of the Region —

Site Location.

Location Dynamics.

> Situated on the harbour of a newly formed town near the city of Doha, tow pedestrian and two commerce bridges are designed based on the synthesis of two structural types: a free-form shell canopy and a stress ribbon deck. The form shares an economy of material and is a dramatic expression of the structural forces at work resulting in a true fusion. The canopy is only 100mm thick at the apex whilst lifted at four evenly spaced points by saddles and supported by cables; the deck is just 200mm thick along its whole length.
